This year the match was held on Tufnell Mere where the ten young competitors were met with blowy, overcast conditions, but at least it was dry. The draw was made and off they went to find their respective pegs. 1-3 were in the bay by the carpark and the rest dotted along the canal stretch.
Fishing got under way at 10am and no sooner had the bait hit the water, Zac in peg 7 was into a fish closely followed by Tom in peg 11. Nothing huge but they all count. By 11am action was coming thick and fast with pegs 7 and 9 matching fish for fish however poor Theo Dixon in peg 8 hadn`t had a bite.
At the midway of the match, all but peg 8 had caught but it was still peg 7 leading the way, however young Jethro in peg 9 was hauling and if he hadn`t lost 3 fish in a row the outcome could have been different. Pegs 1-3 in the bay were catching but not as many as they would have liked.
Back in peg 11 Tom had a good fish of 17lb but bites were slow coming for him. James in peg 10 was catching steadily and the fish were of a good stamp and he was quietly coming up with a late run on the rails. Jack in peg3 started catching late on but a slow start didn`t help the cause.
Bites seemed to dry up at times but then came back, with action fast and furious. In the last half hour a good couple of fish to anyone could put you in with a shout of placing, but Zac in peg 7 kept catching and at the final whistle it proved decisive.
