Junior Carp Match 18 August 2019

The junior carp match was held on Tufnell Mere this year and as there was a Club match as well, we pegged the far bank, using the summer car park made life a bit easier. The draw took place and everyone received a kilo of DT Bait. We all made our way round the lake and got set up.

The whistle was blown nice and loudly for all competitors by Mr Frank Wright. The weather looked great with a bit of a breeze and some sunshine. After speaking to a member, who left early and had caught a fair few fish, hopes were high of a good match with good weights and no sooner had the whistle blown and rods cast, Lewis in peg 8 got off to a flyer with a fish of 13lb on the nose. Next it was Zac in peg7 who went one better with a fish of 13lb 8ozs.

Liam in peg 5 was also catching steadily and in the first hour a good number of fish were caught.

Dark clouds started to roll in and with no rain actually forecast for the day it decided to pelt down for a good hour. Fortunately for me I only had to weigh in a couple of fish, one each to Lewis and Zac.

Once the rain went things went a bit quiet with few bites and fewer landed, everyone started to dry out and we were in for a pleasant afternoon

In peg 4 poor old Jimmy seemed to become a bream magnet, which is a shame as if he was in the adult match he would have done rather well judging by some of their match returns lol.

Down in peg 3 Jethro was getting the bites but not landing anything and young James in peg 2 had fish all around his swim but again nothing to show for it and, alas, was to be the story of his day.

Into the final couple of hours and although a number of fish were being caught we thought there would have been a few more come out and in peg 6 Harrison was, for all his hard work was still blanking. His efforts were eventually rewarded with a nice fish of 14lbs 4ozs.

Come the final hour and it was still anybody`s  match but it was Liam who was making all the running with Zac in 2nd place a couple of good fish would get you in contention, and so it proved with Jethro, who, had  struggled to connect with the fish earlier on suddenly started to land them. Even Jimmy managed to lose the bream and start catching carp.

At the final whistle the weights were tallied up and everyone got together for the presentation and the final scores were as follows

1st Liam Chamberlain            10 fish                         97lb 12ozs

It just leaves me to say a big thank you to DT Baits and Nash Tackle who provided the prizes for everyone and not forgetting Phil Watts and Nick Passfield who helped Marshall the match. Without them we would struggle to run these events. Thanks to Barry Davis who organised the prizes.

I think what they received went down well with everybody and very much appreciated.

Hope to see you all again next year and for those who didn’t win, keep practising
